From Atocha to Usera: metro, commuter trains, bus and taxi explained
You land at Atocha station with the AVE and your accommodation is in Usera: 10–20 minutes away. All the options to make the last stretch without getting lost.

If you arrive in Madrid by train, your entry point is almost certainly Atocha: the AVE and most long-distance stations. Usera is on the other side of the center, but the last stretch is short. These are the options.
Metro: the standard option
- Inside the station itself, take line 1 (Atocha Renfe station) heading south.
- Get off at Pacífico and change to line 6 (circular) direction Legazpi/Usera.
- Download Usera.
- Time: 20–25 minutes in total.
- Ideal if: you travel light and during the day.
Cercanías: the trick that not everyone knows
The Cercanías line C-5 leaves Atocha itself heading south and stops at Doce de Octubre, on the southern limit of the Usera district (Hospital 12 de Octubre area). If your accommodation is in that part of the neighborhood, it is the fastest way: two stops and you are there.
- Time: about 10 minutes of travel.
- Ticket: the Cercanías ticket is cheap and can be purchased at the orange machines at the station.
Bus and taxi
- Taxi/VTC: 10–15 minutes depending on traffic, about €10–15. Taxi rank at the main exit of the station.
- Urban bus: several lines connect the Atocha/Méndez Álvaro area with the neighborhood; It is the cheapest but the slowest.
Our recommendation
- With suitcases at rush hour: taxi. The route is short and the price is reasonable.
- At any other time: metro L1 → L6, or C-5 if it fits your area.
We send you door-to-door directions when booking any of our accommodations in Usera. Are you arriving by plane? Then yours is the guide from the airport to Usera.
