From Barajas airport to Usera: all options explained

Metro, taxi, express bus or commuter train: how long does it take and how much does each way cost to get from Madrid-Barajas airport to your accommodation in Usera.

Metro, taxi, express bus or commuter train: how long does it take and how much does each way cost to get from Madrid-Barajas airport to your accommodation in Usera.

You have landed in Barajas and your base is Usera. Good news: although the neighborhood is to the south and the airport to the northeast, the connection is easy. These are all the options, with approximate times and costs.

Option 1: Metro (ours)

  1. Line 8 from the airport (stations in T2 and T4) to Nuevos Ministerios.
  2. In Nuevos Ministerios, change to line 6 (circular) heading south to Usera.
  • Total time: about 45–55 minutes.
  • Cost: single ticket with airport supplement; If you are going to move around Madrid for several days, consider the tourist pass or a 10-trip voucher.

It is the option we use: without traffic jams, with air conditioning and walking only a few minutes at the end.

Option 2: Taxi or VTC

  • Time: 25–35 minutes depending on traffic (the M-30 and A-42 connect directly to the south).
  • Cost: there is an official closed rate for airport-interior routes on the M-30; Usera is on the southern edge of the center, so the price moves in that range of about 30–35 €. VTCs (Cabify, Uber) are usually in the same range.

With heavy suitcases or early morning arrivals, it is the comfortable option.

Option 3: Airport Express Bus + metro

The Airport Express (yellow line, runs 24 hours) goes down to Atocha and Cibeles. From Atocha, connect with line 1 to Pacífico and change to line 6 towards Usera — or directly a short taxi.

  • Time: 60–75 minutes in total.
  • Cost: the cheapest of the “no long transfer” options.

Option 4: Cercanías (from T4)

If you arrive at T4, the Cercanías takes you to Atocha and there you can change to the C-5 heading south, which stops at Doce de Octubre, on the southern limit of Usera — useful if your accommodation is in the hospital area.

Our recommendation

  • During the day and with little luggage: metro, line 8 → line 6.
  • At night, in a group or with suitcases: taxi/VTC; between 3–4 people the price per person is comparable with public transportation.

When you book any of our accommodations in Usera we send you the exact directions from the station to the door. And if you come by train, here is the guide from Atocha to Usera.
