Entire apartment or room? How to choose accommodation in Madrid

When looking for accommodation in Madrid there is a decision prior to the neighborhood and the price: entire apartment or room. The two options coexist on platforms like Airbnb, and each one fits a different type of trip.

When to choose an entire apartment

• You are traveling as a family or in a group: you need several beds, a common space and the freedom of not sharing a bathroom or kitchen.
• Multiple-day stays with kitchen: having breakfast at home or cooking something at night greatly changes the budget and pace of the trip.
• Remote work: having your own table and guaranteed silence makes a difference if you have video calls.
• Total privacy: you come and go without meeting anyone.

When to choose a room

• You are traveling alone or as a couple and you spend the day outside: if the plan is museums, neighborhoods and restaurants, the room is where you sleep, not where you live.
• Tight budget: a room in a shared apartment costs significantly less than an entire apartment in the same area.
• Short stays: for one or two nights, the logistics of an entire apartment are not always worth it.

The area matters more than you think

Whether you choose an apartment or a room, look at three things: close metro (in Madrid it changes everything), neighborhood commerce (supermarkets, bakeries, real restaurants) and a nearby park to disconnect. Usera meets all three: it is well connected, it has the largest Chinatown in Spain at street level and Madrid Río is just a walk away.

Always check actual availability

Before planning dates, check the accommodation availability calendar. On this website each accommodation shows its calendar automatically synchronized by iCal, so that the free dates you see are the ones that are really free. The reservation is then closed on Airbnb with its usual protection.
